Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee Field of Dreams Rehabilitation Project

Cramahe Township is proud to offer a variety of recreational spaces for residents of all ages; including two playgrounds, three ball diamonds, a soccer field, two tennis courts, a ball hockey court, and two basketball courts. These spaces have been well- loved and well-used for years and has brought generations together through sport, play, and community events.

To ensure this cherished space can be safe, accessible, and enjoyable for years to come our Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee has launched the field of dreams campaign to support the much-needed rehabilitation of our park.

The Cramahe Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee is embarking on an exciting journey to enhance our sports facilities and create a vibrant space for athletes of all ages and skill levels. We are launching the “Fields of Dreams” fundraising campaign, a collaborative effort to build state-of-the-art sports fields that will serve as a hub for sports enthusiasts, families, and local schools. By seeking donations from community stakeholders and corporate partners, we aim to create a space that fosters unity, physical well-being, and community pride.

Our vision is to create a happy and healthy Township where Cramahe residents of all ages can play, learn, and build community.

Our mission is to promote quality recreation opportunities for all Cramahe residents through the creation and enhancement of parks, facilities, and activities.

Cramahe Township will continue to experience unprecedented growth with more than 700 homes currently approved to be built, and new applications being expedited as a result of the Province of Ontario’s Bill 23, More Homes Built Faster Act.

Our Committee wants to ensure this growth is positive for our community by creating spaces that incorporate Cramahe’ s Heritage.

In 1944, Mrs. B. Smith generously gifted Cramahe Township the land on Elgin Street South for a recreation site. This land was given in memory of her father, John Coyle.
June 14th, 2025, will mark the 81st anniversary of this donation, and as the renewal of this space comes to life, the committee will explore incorporating this generous aspect of Cramahe history.

The Mrs. B. Smith Community Sports Park, for example, could be an appropriate name. We would like to work with the Heritage Committee to ensure this history is prominently captured within the space.

Phase 1 Scope:

• Tennis court resurfacing (and repositioning)

• Basketball court resurfacing

• Ball hockey rink repair and painting

• New basketball nets and hardware

• New fencing (as needed)

• New lighting

To date, the Township of Cramahe has allocated $89,000 to this revitalization project. In April 2025, The Parks & Recreation Committee received permission to launch a fundraising campaign focused on the rehabilitation of the current assets in the park (Phase 1)

The cost to achieve Phase 1 is anticipated to be approximately $250,000. Given the $89,000 already designated for this project, the Committee has set a fundraising goal of $160,000 to complete the first phase.

All donations received will be designated for the rehabilitation of the Elgin Street Sports Park. Regardless of the total amount fundraised, the Committee intends to proceed with at least a portion of the Park’s rehabilitation in 2026 by completing as much of the project as can be delivered based on dollars available at that time. This decision would be part of the 2026 Township budget process.
