What are Development Charges (DCs)?
DCs are fees collected when a building permit is issued. They help cover the cost of new or expanded services, like roads, fire protection, parks, and water systems, so that growth pays for growth—not existing taxpayers.
Who has to pay DCs?
Most new residential, commercial, and industrial projects must pay DCs. This includes new buildings, additions, and redevelopments.
What do DCs pay for?
They fund infrastructure and services needed as the community grows such as:
· Roads and transportation
· Fire protection
· Parks and recreation facilities
· Water systems (if connected)
How are DCs divided?
· Municipal portion – applies to all developments
· County portion – applies to all developments
· Water portion – applies only if the development connects to Township water services
Are there any exemptions or reductions?
Yes, some projects may qualify for exemptions or reduced fees depending on the type or location of the development.
