Affordable Transportation for Our Rural Communities

Northumberland Transportation Initiative is a pre-booked transportation service for any resident of Cramahe Township and Alnwick/Haldimand that is registered as a member. Visitors may also register. This includes all families, youths, seniors, and adults in the community. All drivers are screened and trained. Northumberland Transportation Initiative provides transportation to and from the following places: 

  • Bomanton
  • Brookside
  • Burnely
  • Castleon
  • Centreton
  • Cobourg
  • Colbourne
  • Dundonald
  • Eddystone
  • Fenella
  • Grafton
  • Lakeport
  • Morganston
  • Roseneath
  • Roseneath Landing
  • Salem
  • Veronville
  • Wicklow

Transportation operates Monday to Friday from 7am to 5pm for bookings. These rides can be used for appointments, meetings, school, work, social, shopping, and recreation. When arranging, if you wish to be picked up or dropped off at a location other than a regular van stop. The driver will let you off the van as close to your request as is safely possible.

Please note - While in Cobourg, riders can use the Cobourg Transit. Complimentary passes available, ask the driver when boarding. 

 

Fees & Payment

Travel for as low as $5.00 per person for a one way trip. 

Service Route connecting Monday's & Thursday's to Trent Hills including Campbellford, Hastings and Warkworth for an additional $5.00 one way. Call (905) 355-1444 for more details.

Please pay the driver when boarding and please have exact change.

Policies and Procedures

  • Safety - You are required to wear you seat belt at all times. Children under 8 must be in proper car seats. NIT has car seats available to use while riding.

  • Storage - Space is very limited; advise if bringing large items or several large shopping bags.

  • Pets - No pets allowed; certified medical assistance/guide dogs excepted.

  • Lost items - We are not responsible for personal items lost or stolen. Items left behind will be stored in our office for 2 months.

  • No food, drink or smoking is permitted.

  • Please help keep the van tidy!

How to Register

Please register prior to riding. Complete a Northumberland Transportation
Initiative application form. Registration forms are available at the following
locations throughout Northumberland County:

  • Community Care Northumberland Offices or at www.commcare.ca

  • Community and Social Services Department - 555 Courthouse Road, Cobourg

  • Township of Cramahe - Municipal Office - 1 Toronto Street, Colborne www.visitcramahe.ca

  • Township of Alnwick/Haldimand - 10836 County Road 2, Grafton www.alnwickhaldimand.ca

  • Registration forms are also available at most service agencies, local libraries, post offices & arenas in the service area.

  • Leave a detailed message

  • Availability: first come, first served

  • Reservation confirmation includes day, time and pickup location
